Track Your Walking Progress

The American Diabetes Association introduces “ClubPed” to help you reach your walking goals

Do you walk everyday? Or most days? Then you’ll love ClubPed, the American Diabetes Association’s (ADA) new online feature. Just set a goal and start walking—the web site will track your steps and reward you with some nifty prizes. “Exercise is a must to help control your blood sugar,” says Matthew Corcoran, M.D., Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network endocrinologist. “And walking is the perfect exercise. All you need is a well-fitting pair of shoes.” If ClubPed sounds good to you, Corcoran suggests you join with a friend, or group of friends, and earn your rewards together. The program is free—all you need is a pedometer to count your steps. Although the ADA does offer an optional pedometer and “Fast Facts” booklet for $19.95, you may use your own pedometer if you have one.
